The people of Lembaga Kajian Islam dan Sosial link intellectual debate with grassroots action in Yogyakarta. Traditionally trained Islamic scholars, they open the doors of Islam to innovation and debate. Through books and by weekly distributing 20,000 pamphlets in mosques, they promote tolerance and emphasise dynamism, historicity and locality. LKiS is a local initiative with a message of global relevance.
