Carnival was the theme of the 2001 Prince Claus Awards. The Principal Award went to The Summer Carnival Foundation in the Netherlands and to artist and designer Peter Minshall from Trinidad for building intercultural bridges through carnival.
In addition, ten Prince Claus Awards were presented. Rex Nettleford delivered the 2001 Prince Claus Awards speech.
