Announcing New Director

The Prince Claus Fund announces the appointment of Joumana El Zein Khoury as its new director, starting 1 October 2015. Under the leadership of Mrs El Zein Khoury, the Prince Claus Fund will continue its mission to support excellent partners working in the field ofculture and development around the world.

Albania's Heritage

In partnership with Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB, Albania), the Prince Claus Fund’s Cultural Emergency Response (CER) programme has supported the restoration of both the Haderi and Gurgai tower houses in the UNESCO World Heritage site Gjirokastra. Gjirokastra is a rare example in the Balkans of a well-preserved Ottoman-influenced town and a testimony to the late medieval merchant culture that once existed in Albania.

Partner Conference

Together with Network Partner Museo De Antioquia, the Prince Claus Fund has co-organised the conference Urban Transformation, Art and Conflict in Medellín. This conference is part of the bi-annual network partner committee meetings, where committee members gather to share knowledge and discuss local developments in their respective regions. The meetings will take place in Colombia from 22-29 July 2015

New Grantees

The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture, the Prince Claus Fund and Magnum Foundation are happy to announce the selection of the newest group of 10 grantees for the second cycle of the Arab Documentary Photography Program.The work chosen by the jury reflects a wide variety of themes, focusing on social impact and cultural concerns that span from the status of divorced women in Saudi Arabia to the conditions of gold miners in Sudan.

Photo Archive Rescue

In June 2014, the Prince Claus Fund’s Cultural Emergency Response (CER) programme joined forces with African Photography Initiatives (APHI, Switzerland) to prevent the destruction of a significant photo archive in the Cameroonian capital of Douala

Ignacio Agüero

Congratulations to filmmaker Ignacio Agüero on receiving the Prince Claus Award in Santiago. HE Ambassador Marion Kappeyne van de Coppelloon presented the award to Mr Agüero in a celebration at Cineteca Nacional on 1 July 2015, stating "Ignacio continues to perform experiments as a filmmaker and humanist, seeking to create documentaries that emphasize individual and civic responsibility. An important task for the film medium but also in education..."

Saving Nepal's Heritage

In a joint effort to cope with the challenges Nepal’s heritage faces in the aftermath of the 25 April earthquake, the Prince Claus Fund has joined together with ICCROM, ICOMOS, the Smithsonian Institution and ICOM to carry out intensive training in Kathmandu to salvage and protect cultural heritage.

New Collaboration

The Prince Claus Fund is excited to announce the launch of a two-year collaboration with the Trust for African Rock Art (TARA). Under this collaboration, both organisations will pool their experience, financial resources, and networks to stop destruction of rock art sites across the African continent.

Nepal Evacuation

On 25 April 2015, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake shook the Himalayan region, causing the partial collapse of the Living Traditions Museum of Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. The Prince Claus Fund supported the immediate evacuation of over 400 museum objects before aftershocks destroyed the entire museum building

The Ticket Fund supports the cross-cultural exchange of artists and cultural practitioners. By covering travel costs, such as economy class plane or train tickets, the Ticket Fund assists in the professional growth and networking abilities of those it supports.

Torchbearer Reflection

Prince Claus Fund Torchbearers Marry de Gaay Fortman and Evert Meiling supported the Cambodian hiphop crew & education centre Tiny Toones in 2013. When the dancers performed in Rotterdam, Marry and her family were there: 'Afterwards, talking to the Tiny Toones performers, my daughters were impressed by these young performers' joyfulness and their energy, creativity and the way they connected to other people: they are a great example to others.'
