El Anatsui Exhibition

An exhibition of works by 2009 Prince Claus Laureate El Anatsui (Ghana, 1944), one of the most influential contemporary artists working today, will be presented at the Prince Claus Fund Gallery in Amsterdam 24 November 2016 till 28 April 2017. The opening on Thursday, 24 November is part of Amsterdam Art Weekend and is in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Prince Claus Fund.

ICC Landmark Case

The Prince Claus Fund welcomes the confession of guilt and expression of genuine remorse by Ahmad al-Faqi al-Mahdi at the International Criminal Court. Al-Mahdi was charged with war crimes against a World Heritage site in Mali during the time that he headed the ‘moral police’ of the jihadist rebel group Ansar Dine. It is the first time the ICC has tried the destruction of cultural heritage alone as a war crime.

The Prince Claus Fund and the GSRD Foundation would like to congratulate the grantees selected for the 2015 The Future is Handmade, Re-designing Crafts Call! The Call aimed to support “out of the box” innovative proposals that breathe new life into traditional craftsmanship and handcrafts practices.

The Prince Claus Fund was dismayed to learn that a British Muslim woman, Faziah Shaheen, was detained by police officers on 25 July under Britain’s Terrorism Act, on the basis of a book she was reading. The book in question was 'Syria Speaks', an anthology of work by over fifty Syrian writers, artists and activists that received support from the Prince Claus Fund

The exhibition 'Supporting Alternative Visions' at the Prince Claus Fund Gallery highlights the power and beauty of photography in challenging contexts, featuring works by such artists as Zanele Muholi, Akram Zaatari and Maya Goded from the limited edition Prince Claus Fund PhotoBox.
