Kalpana Chakma

On 12 June 1996, indigenous rights activist Kalpana Chakma was abducted at gunpoint by the Bangladeshi military. She has not been heard from since. Prince Claus Fund project partner Shahidul Alam and Saydia Gulrukh have revived the plight of the disappeared activist in the courageous and revealing ‘photo-forensic’ exhibition ‘Searching for Kalpana Chakma’.

Return to Haifa

The first project resulting from the Prince Claus Fund’s collaboration with the Qattan Foundation opens in June 2013: the play 'Return to Haifa' tells the story of a young Palestinian couple and the son they left behind when they were forced to leave the city of Haifa in 1948. The play was supported by ‘SELAT: Links through the Arts’, a Prince Claus Fund- Qattan Foundation initiative, which supports Palestinians living in refugee camps in Lebanon

Venice Biennale

The Prince Claus Fund and the German Pavilion hosted a book performance and reception on 29 May 2013 in honour of Prince Claus Laureates Dayanita Singh and Santu Mofokeng. The laureates' work is exhibited as the German contribution to the 55th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale Venezia in the French Pavilion. The work of 2012 Laureate Teresa Margolles, 2007 Laureate Emily Jacir and Prince Claus Fund project partner Palestinian Art Court – al Hoash are also featured

Somali poet ‘Hadraawi’ accepted the 2012 Prince Claus Award from HE Ambassador Joost Reintjes on 17 April 2013. The ceremony in Hargeisa was accompanied by the launch of a new translation of the laureate’s poems entitled Hadraawi: The Man and the Poet – Vol. 1

Maung Thura (Zarganar)

On 27 March HE Ambassador Joan Boer presented the 2012 Prince Claus Award to Zarganar during a historic Anyeint performance by Zarganar in the People's Square in Yangon. The exciting theatrical performance lasted 5 and a half jours and was attended by an estimated 5000 people. It was the biggest public performance ever to take place in Burma
