Kalpana Chakma

On 12 June 1996, indigenous rights activist Kalpana Chakma was abducted at gunpoint by the Bangladeshi military. She has not been heard from since. Prince Claus Fund project partner Shahidul Alam and Saydia Gulrukh have revived the plight of the disappeared activist in the courageous and revealing ‘photo-forensic’ exhibition ‘Searching for Kalpana Chakma’.

Creative Works Award

Johann van der Schijff received the 2013 University of Cape Town Creative Works Award for 'Community Punching Bag'. The award recognises major art works, performances, productions and compositions produced by UCT staff. 'Community Punching Bag' is a project supported by the Prince Claus Fund

Return to Haifa

The first project resulting from the Prince Claus Fund’s collaboration with the Qattan Foundation opens in June 2013: the play 'Return to Haifa' tells the story of a young Palestinian couple and the son they left behind when they were forced to leave the city of Haifa in 1948. The play was supported by ‘SELAT: Links through the Arts’, a Prince Claus Fund- Qattan Foundation initiative, which supports Palestinians living in refugee camps in Lebanon

Reflections 2012

Debate&Artist Talk

The Prince Claus Fund, De Balie and Castrum Peregrini organised a debate and an artist talk as part of the manifestation My Friend, My Enemy, My Society. On 11 June, Prince Claus Fund project partners George E. Ngwane and Liza Largoza Maza spoke about the role of friendship in areas of conflict. On 14 June, Lebanese filmmaker Mazen Khaled gave an artist talk

Venice Biennale

The Prince Claus Fund and the German Pavilion hosted a book performance and reception on 29 May 2013 in honour of Prince Claus Laureates Dayanita Singh and Santu Mofokeng. The laureates' work is exhibited as the German contribution to the 55th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale Venezia in the French Pavilion. The work of 2012 Laureate Teresa Margolles, 2007 Laureate Emily Jacir and Prince Claus Fund project partner Palestinian Art Court – al Hoash are also featured

New CER Collaboration

The Prince Claus Fund and Global Heritage Fund have committed to a new partnership that will enable both organisations to more efficiently respond to cultural emergencies. Through this collaboration, both organisations will significantly enhance the capacity of the other in terms of human resources, expertise and financial capacity

Life of a Hammam

The book Life of an Afghan Hammam: Ignited, Extinguished, Rekindled was launched in May 2013. The Prince Claus Fund supported the publication, which describes the restoration of the historic Khisht-i-Kopruk hammam

Dinh Q. Lê

Vietnamese visual artist and 2010 Prince Claus Laureate Dinh Q. Lê gave a keynote lecture as part of the stedelijk|forum series on 24 May 2013. Lê discussed his artistic practice and presented selections of his documentary and film work at the Stedelijk Museum

Out of the Ruins

"A gift to the people of Bam, an unpretentious tribute to the survivors and the victims of this tragic and painful disaster." The exhibition at the Prince Claus Fund Gallery 'Out of the Ruins: Bam Photography Rescue Project' will be open to the public through 16 August 2013

Hadraawi

Somali poet ‘Hadraawi’ accepted the 2012 Prince Claus Award from HE Ambassador Joost Reintjes on 17 April 2013. The ceremony in Hargeisa was accompanied by the launch of a new translation of the laureate’s poems entitled Hadraawi: The Man and the Poet – Vol. 1

Maung Thura (Zarganar)

On 27 March HE Ambassador Joan Boer presented the 2012 Prince Claus Award to Zarganar during a historic Anyeint performance by Zarganar in the People's Square in Yangon. The exciting theatrical performance lasted 5 and a half jours and was attended by an estimated 5000 people. It was the biggest public performance ever to take place in Burma
