The Prince Claus Fund is an independent foundation. In policy matters it is not answerable to any government or non-governmental organization, nor to any businesses or individuals.
Exceptional quality is recognized, encouraged and rewarded by the Fund.
This recognition of exceptional quality is based on respect and trust.
The Fund assigns importance to intercultural exchange which opens up new horizons, both ‘South-South’ and ‘South-North’.
Dialogue between intellectuals and artists is strongly advocated by the Fund. Although the influence of such dialogue may not be immediately apparent, its long-term benefits can be of immense value.
Individuals as well as groups are supported by the Fund. This means that support is not necessarily limited to a project or an organization.
The Fund is not primarily interested in acknowledging famous, established names but also in encouraging people still in the experimental stage, for whom financial aid, patronage and esteem are crucial.
Purveyors of culture for whom local recognition is not always a matter of course are also supported by the Fund. It endeavours to offer protection and legitimacy to those who need it.
