Pulgar Magazine and other Magazines supported by the Prince Claus Fund at Documenta 12 in Kassel, Germany

Pulgar (Caracas, Venezuela) defines itself as an occasional publication. Founded in 1999 as a venue dedicated to contemporary visual creation, Pulgar (Thumb) was originally intended to conceive an exhibition hall in the spatial format of a free, transportable print medium for immediate consumption. Every curator invited to the project establishes his or her hypothesis of work from the platonic space of ideas, and not in relation to Pulgar’s format or technical capabilities for printing and publishing. Thus the artists do not concern themselves with interpreting a concept, but rather with conceiving a work whose limits are not demarcated by the usual barriers of publishing processes.

Pulgar was invited to participate in Documenta 12 magazine. The online journal of Documenta 12 magazines is a magazine of magazines. It compiles the articles that have been published on the leitmotifs of Documenta 12 in the more than 100 media around the world that are involved in the project, in the original language and in English.

Luis Romero, editor of Pulgar (see photo) went to Kassel and set up a display with all recent publications and information on Pulgar. Director of the Prince Claus Fund, Els van der Plas, visited Documenta 12. There were more publications on display that are supported or published by the Prince Claus Fund; Criterios from Cuba, Chimurenga from South Africa, Revista de Critica Cultural from Chili, Publications of Utan Kayu from Indonesia and the special issue of the Prince Claus Fund Journal 'Living Together' that was published in collaboration with Kalam from Indonesia.
