The 7th Performance Festival Cali, Colombia

The 7th Performance Festival Cali will take place in September 2008. Activities include educational and training events, exhibitions, public presentations, workshops, conferences, concerts, and performances. The festival will take place in several public spaces, already identified for that purpose as unusual and not used before for exhibitions. These areas include parks, streets, exhibition rooms and conference rooms. This year the festival will have guests from the countries that border Colombia, making reference to the tense relation that exists between Colombia and neighbouring countries. It will be an event of contemporary art open and inclusive with the participation of the community of Cali. The festival will celebrate and promote excellence, risk in arts, creativity, open participation and debate through cooperation, quality, access and education.

This year the festival will invite 6 artists from neighbouring countries. These artists are: Juan Carlos Rodriguez (Venezuela), Juan Javier Salazar (Perú), Wilbert Carmona (Nicaragua), Humberto Velez (Panamá), Tranvia Cero (Ecuador) and one representative from Brasil. Fundecima and the Asociación de Campesinos del Departamento del Cauca (peasant and minority organizations) from Colombia will also be invited.

Regional concert tour from musicians without Borders Bosnia and Herzegovina (MwB BiH)

The Winds of Change (WoC) is the first BiH Wind Ensemble: Thirteen of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s aspiring young professionals, and three professional BiH musicians, supported by two international soloists from Spain and the Netherlands. One year ago, a project was initiated by Musicians without Borders International in cooperation with the Netherlands Wind Ensemble (Nederlands Blazers Ensemble) and the Sarajevo Music Academy. Musicians without Borders BiH facilitated the local organization, coordinating a series of master classes led by the Netherlands soloists Prof. Irma Kort (oboe) and Prof. Willem van Merwijk (saxophone), as well as two tours with a total of eight concerts in BiH. The project culminated with the establishment of the BiH Wind Ensemble, Winds of Change. The WoC performs new arrangements and compositions that are a unique and adventurous combination of traditional Balkan (Bosnian, Croatian, Macedonian, Serbian, Montenegrian…), Jazz, Classical, Contemporary, and European melodies.  The WoC is the only ensemble of its kind in the whole of South East Europe (SEE), combining classical music with ethno/pop/jazz, thus attracting both a young audience and an audience of connoisseurs. In the one and a half year of its existence it has already reached out to TV and Radio audiences all over BiH, performed at the opening of the prestigious Sarajevo Winter Festival and given sold-out concerts all over BiH.  In a country that is redefining its existence this is unheard of, demonstrating that this ensemble could play an important role in the cultural life of all former Yugoslavian countries. The goal of the regional tour is to strengthen the ensemble’s (and its members’) skills and enrich its experience, while at the same time promoting it within BiH and the surrounding countries.

The project's duration is 8 months with a regional tour that will take place from 10th to 17th November 2008. It will include three WoC concerts in Trebinje (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Dubrovnik (Croatia) and Podgorica (Montenegro).
