January – March: “Creative Cambodia, Recycling everyday materials”, Reyum Institute for Arts and Culture
Through photographs, video footage and the display of objects, this exhibition shows examples of how people in Cambodia make new use of everyday materials. By transforming available resources such as empty plastic and metal containers, second hand fabric, engines, and rubber tires, new tools and objects are crafted for use in daily life. The purpose of the exhibition is to describe and understand the process of generating the ideas more then to make a fetish of the objects themselves, thus emphasizing the ingenuity and resourcefulness within a living culture.

“Creative Cambodia” is part of an ongoing Reyum research and documentation project entitled “Tools and practices: Change and continuity” which began in 2000. For more information on this exhibition, please contact REYUM: reyum@camnet.com.kh, or 855 23-217-149

16TH VIDEOBRASIL, change dates to October 1 through 25!
The relationship between contemporary art and cinema—and the desire to disrupt paradigms that turn them into market- and industry-oriented practices—lies at the core of the 16th Videobrasil International Electronic Art Festival. “The idea is to shed light on works and artists that surpass the established practices and formats to explore new limits,” says curator Solange Farkas. The curatorial framework applies to the entire Festival programme, including the Southern Panoramas competitive exhibition, and unfolds into subthemes such as expanded cinema, and the meaning of projected image in contemporary times. The 16th Videobrasil will take place October 1 through 25, 2007, at SESC Avenida Paulista, São Paulo, and is a production of SESC São Paulo. The deadline for submission of works to the competitive exhibition has been extended until April 20. Works will be accepted that have been produced from May 2005 onwards by artists b orn in countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Oceania. The selected works will be announced in July. The Entry Form and regulations for the 16th Videobrasil are available on www.videobrasil.org.br

APAC receives a grant for revising and writing a catalogue of more than 10 000 pages of music and texts from the time of the former Jesuit Reductions in America, which were copied and jealously kept for over two hundred years by the Moxo Indians, who live in the department of Beni, Bolivia. The manuscript was gathered in the parish archive of San Ignacio de Moxos. The grant comes from the Western Ontario University in Canada - institution that presented this project to Government of Canada. All together, eleven projects were presented for the competition. Only two of them were selected and given financial support. A group of students will study the manuscript, provide its inventory and prepare a catalogue of its contents. The team who intervene in the project is composed by two musicologists, two historians, two translators (from the local languages to Spanish), three native Moxo technicians, one national coordinator and a number of Canadian students; all under leadership of Rev.Piotr Nawrot, musicologist and artistic director of the International Festival of the Renaissance and Baroque Music in America, Misiones de Chiquitos, which every two years is organized by APAC. The administration of the Project will be executed by APAC and San Ignacio de Moxos Parish.
