CER decided to support the restauration of the Cemetery of Davié and the sacred tree and sacred forests in Assahoun (municipality of Avé) and the terracing of a sacred area on the shores of Lake Togo (Togoville).
Each tomb of the Cemetery of Davié (municipality of Zio) is surmounted by a monumental statue that states the deceased person occupations and religion. Many monumental tombs have collapsed due to the heavy rainfall. The large amounts of water not only damaged built heritage but also washed away the protective earth coating on the roots of a 150 year-old tree on the main square in Assahoun. This square has always served as a public meeting space for the local population as well as the venue for a variety of political and socio-cultural activities. The sacred forest in Assahoun and the sacred shores of Lake Togo suffered similar erosion damages. CER allocated an amount of € 35.000,- to repair the damages to these sacred sites.
