Cultural Emergency Response reserved €25,000 so as to provide cultural emergency relief for the Komunitas Maestro in Aceh, Indonesia. It is a music studio and cultural centre, which is located in Banda Aceh. Apart from recording music, the Komunitas Maestro also produces educative radio jingles on social themes in Aceh. Hence, it fulfils an important cultural and social function within the Acehnese community.
The Komunitas Maestro music studio was completely destroyed by the tsunami. With CER’s support, the studio could be refurbished with not only audio and recording equipment but also musical instruments. This enabled the Komunitas Maestro to resume its work.
