The presentation of the Prince Claus Award to Frankétienne in Haiti

On 13 December 2006 at Haiti’s Quartier Latin, the Prince Claus Award was presented to Frankétienne by Mr. Joep van de Laar, the Chargé d’Affaires at the Dutch Embassy in the Dominican Republic. The official ceremony was followed by a cultural program in which Frankétienne’s texts were declaimed while others had been set to music and were sung by well-known Haitian singers including Azor and Boulo Valcourt. Haitian artistes, all of whom were friends of the laureate, then performed a number of short cultural sketches. In addition, a small exhibition of paintings by Frankétienne was held at Quartier Latin, and Mr. Rob Padberg, the Consul General in Haiti, praised this ‘thunderous Haitian cultural program’. Approximately 125 guests attended, including the Minister of Culture.
