The presentation of the Prince Claus Award to Al Kamandjâti in Ramallah

On 14 December, His Excellency, Ambassador Frans Makken presented the Prince Claus Award to Ramzi Aburedwan, the Director of Al Kamandjâti. Before the ceremony, parts of the Prince Claus Fund’s 10th anniversary DVD were shown that featured both the Fund and Al Kamandjâti.

His Excellency, Ambassador Makken gave a speech and - following the presentation of the certificate and a symbolic cheque - Ramzi Aburedwan performed a sonata with ten musicians from ten different countries. Approximately 60 guests attended the reception, including the Prince Claus laureate and eulogist Amira Hass and Janet Michael, the Mayor of Ramallah. Also present was Naseer Arafat, the Prince Claus Fund’s project partner in Nablus. In addition, the event attracted a press and media presence, but less than had been hoped for. This was due to incidents at a checkpoint in Jerusalem along with problems in Gaza. The situation in Gaza resulted in a cancellation by the Dutch TV company RTL 4, which had originally agreed to attend.
