
Michael Poghosian (1954, Armenia) is a popular actor who hilariously portrays everyday foibles, confusion, trickery and cunning while encouraging self-examination and social awareness. His performances involve masks and costumes, expressive body language, song and exaggeration. His satire is based on contemporary Armenian life and tackles issues such as social injustice, corruption and political populism. Poghosian has toured in Russia, Hungary Lebanon, Syria, France, the USA and other countries that have a large Armenia Diaspora. He has directed and acted in films and television series that attract huge audiences. He is also a partner in an actors’ organisation that focuses on production and script writing. He has been granted his award for his commitment to deploying his talents for the benefit of Armenian society and for encouraging democracy. His work reflects two of the Fund’s themes:‘Humour and Satire’ and ‘Spaces of Freedom’.
