Ibrahim Salahi (1930, Sudan; lives in Oxford, UK)

Ibrahim Salahi made history as a painter and teacher in post-independence Sudan. He draws his visual vocabulary from the visual and literary heritage of Sudan and is responsible for opening the door to modernism in Sudan and the Arab world, thereby creating links with other parts of Africa and the wider world, and becoming an example to generations of African artists.
