Mehri Maftun is a musical authority, especially with regard to his skill at the dambura, the harmonium and the ghichak. In a country from which music has been banished, Maftun manages to keep it alive. In his work he combines local, regional and trans-ethnic musical and literary elements, the latter ranging from comedy and romanticism to social criticism.
