It is with great sadness that we must inform you of the death of Michel Mavros, who had collaborated with the Prince Claus Fund since 1998.
Michel lived and worked in Africa for many years. His great passion was culture, and his activities ranged from film to fashion and communication. He also contributed to the Fund’s activities in countless different ways.
Working with Michel was a wonderful experience: he was always positive and full of enthusiasm. We delighted in his warm personality, sense of humour and expertise.
Right from the beginning, Michel Mavros was deeply involved with the Sahel Opera Project, which is a Prince Claus Fund initiative. He was responsible for the Project’s co-ordination in Africa, and his role in the Opera’s development has been vital not only for us but also – and more especially – for the artists of the Sahel region. His commitment, inspiration and know-how have been crucial both to the Project and to all the people involved.
We have lost a dear friend and a wonderful man, whose personality, spirit and ideas will live on in the hearts and minds of many African artists and all of us here at the Fund.
Finally, on behalf of both the Board and the Office of the Prince Claus Fund, I wish to express my profound sympathy to his family and many friends at this difficult time.
