Theatreplay Bafana Republic wins an award

The satirical one (wo)man show Bafana Republic that received support by the Prince Claus Fund written by Mike van Graan and perfomed by acctress Lindiwe Matsikiza was named “Best One Person Show” at the inaugural South African Comedy Awards.  The award came a day after the show returned from the Hilton Arts Festival where it played to two sold-out houses and standing ovations, with more than 450 people at each performance.  Read more

Saaram - Essence an Indian Video Installation

Fullness is born from fullness, say the Upanishads. Fullness deleted from fullness is still fullness, leaving behind -  fullness.   This message is extracted from old Sanskrit texts and will be the inspiration of a 40 minute two screen video installation by Indian artist Ms. Soudhamini of Quicksilver films. Fashion show by Oumou Sy at Documenta 12, Kassel

On 22 September, the Kulturbahnhof in Kassel hosts a fashion show by Senegalese artist and fashion designer and 1998 Prince Claus laureate Oumou Sy. It features new collections as well as a retrospective of her past work, including the historical review of the robes of African queens and kings. Besides ten models who have long worked with Oumou Sy, 150 people from Kassel and the surrounding region will take part in the show. read more

Occidentalism, The West in Egyptian Eyes

Twenty local artists representing the Egyptian contemporary art scene have been selected and commissioned to create works of art surrounding the present-day theme of occidentalism in Cairo, or the West in Egyptian Eyes. Read more

Berceuse directed by Youssef Raihani of Théâtre Horizon in Morocco

The project will involve a translation and publication for the first time in Arabic of the play “Berceuse”. The project consists of the production and dissemination of a play that is radically different in the Arabic context. It is a play that represents a continuation of the project "La Contagion Beckett" (The Becket contagion), directed by the Moroccan Director Youssef Raihani. Read more

Casa Choco-Late

  'A House of Culture' in Colombia organised cultural activities that were supported by the Prince Claus Fund. 
Choco
: Is the name of the department located on Colombia’s western pacific sea board. Late: from the verb to beat, as in heartbeat. This title was thought up by the children of Nuqui to mean that their department is alive. They also refer to themselves as chocolate. read more

Dutch premiere of Jant-Bi on 1, 3-4 February 2007 in Amsterdam

Following Le coq est mort (2000) and Fagaala (2005), Compagnie Jant-Bi from Senegal is returning to The Netherlands with their latest production WAXTAAN, meaning ‘discussion’ in Wolof (one of the languages in Senegal), with choreography by Germaine Acogny and Patrick Acogny. Jant-Bi is a Network Partner of the Prince Claus Fund. read more

Prince Claus Fund Film Grant at International Film Festival Rotterdam

For the seventh consecutive year, the Prince Claus Fund is happy to announce the presentation of the Prince Claus Fund Film Grant of € 15,000 to a 2007 CineMart project.The Grant will be announced on 31 January during the CineMart Closing Night Party at Club Rotterdam. read more
