Ethiopian Circus from the outskirts of Addis Ababa at Amsterdam Roots Festival
|time||:||from 13:30 till 18:30|
For the first time in Amsterdam, Fekat Circus will present a mix of traditional Ethiopian dance and modern acrobatics as part of the Amsterdam Roots Festival.
Fekat Circus, or the “blossoming circus” in Amharic, was founded in 2004 in the suburbs of Addis Ababa by a group of young Ethiopian circus artists. United by positive values and strong sense of brotherhood, they share the common dream of working with youth from the suburbs and offering them a chance to present their talent on stage.
Fekat Circus aims to stimulate thousands of children living in challenging situations, develop the skills of aspiring Ethiopian circus artists, and provide them with work opportunities. The circus was supported by the Prince Claus Fund in 2016 during the First African Circus Arts Festival in Ethiopia.
As part of the European Tour, the Fekat Circus troupe travels around the world with spectacular performances. Their performance BE-ON presents the beauty of dance, movement, and circus.
